Under the Federal Act on Measures for Safeguarding National Security (BWIS Art. 22-24) the Federal Office of Police in cooperation with the cantonal authorities is responsible for protecting government officials and buildings including those falling under the international obligations of Switzerland. These tasks are the responsibility of central government and are carried out by the Federal Security Service according to the Security Ordinance (VSB).
The Federal Security Service advises the agencies located in government buildings on security matters, and cooperates with several other offices including the cantonal and communal offices responsible for security, the army, foreign security agencies and private security companies.
