Eva Wildi-Cortés appointed new fedpol director

Bern, 20.11.2024 - At its meeting on 20 November, the Federal Council appointed Eva Wildi-Cortés as the new director of the Federal Office of Police (fedpol). Eva Wildi-Cortés is currently deputy director and head of the Resources Management and Strategy directorate. She succeeds Nicoletta della Valle, whose employment contract ends on 31 January 2025.

Eva Wildi-Cortés has worked at fedpol for more than 20 years, first as a deputy head of section from 2004 and then as head of section and deputy head of staff from 2006. Ms Wildi-Cortés has managed the Resource Management and Strategy directorate since 2012 and was appointed deputy director of fedpol on 1 June 2016.

Ms Wildi-Cortés completed a Master's degree in Economics and Politics at the University of Bern. From 2002-04 she played a key role as deputy project manager in the evaluation of Switzerland's internal security (USIS project). She also represented fedpol on the police training committee of the Conference of Cantonal Justice and Police Directors (CCJPD) and is a board member of the Swiss Police Institute.

Eva Wildi-Cortés fully meets the requirements for the role of director based on her track record and her many years of extensive experience in the public sector and in the field of policing. She also has broad experience in management, particularly of complex projects and taskforces and in personnel management. The Federal Council is confident that Ms Wildi-Cortés will represent the Federal Office of Police competently and reliably both at a domestic and international level.

As director, Ms Wildi-Cortés will be responsible for the management and strategy of fedpol with its more than 1,000 employees. She will also make a significant contribution to the further development and implementation of Switzerland's national security policy and ensure the exchange between fedpol and Parliament, the Office of the Attorney General of Switzerland and the cantons. In addition, she will represent fedpol vis-à-vis other national and international authorities and organisations.

Eva Wildi-Cortés (49) is married with three children.

The present incumbent, Nicoletta della Valle, became director on 1 August 2014. During her term of office, she focused in particular on fighting serious organised crime. The Federal Council thanks Ms della Valle for her work and her commitment to ensuring the security of the people of Switzerland.
