COVID-19 bridging loans

Statistical data on suspicious activity reports involving COVID-19 bridging loans

For statistical purposes, the Money Laundering Reporting Office Switzerland MROS gathers data on suspicious activity reports involving COVID-19 bridging loans. MROS only accepts reports from institutions that are subject to the Anti-Money Laundering Act. Reports must contain the suspicion that the reported assets originate from a felony as defined in the Swiss Criminal Code.

In contrast to the MROS statistics, those published by the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs SECO cover all cases that are in violation of the COVID-19 Loan Guarantees Act.

Not every violation of the COVID-19 Loan Guarantee Act is a felony as defined in the Swiss Criminal Code.

MROS updates the statistics on a monthly basis.

Number of suspicious activity reports under AMLA or the SCC 1751
Amount of bridging loan involved in CHF 228 549 679
Number of notifications made to law enforcement services according to Article 23 paragraph 4 AMLA 1401
(As of: 30 Dezember 2021)

Explanation on the statistics

MROS transmits the suspicious activity report to the appropriate law enforcement authority if the provisions of Article 23 paragraph 4 AMLA and Article 8 of the Ordinance on the Money Laundering Reporting Office Switzerland (MROSO) are met. In addition to the suspicious activity report MROS also sends the law enforcement authority an analysis report, which may contain information from several suspicious activity reports.
